Ceramic painting is painted and decorated on the surface of ceramic objects with special pigments and techniques. It is divided into on-glazed color, in-glazed color and under-glazed color.

On-glazed color is painted on the glaze of the porcelain that has been fired and formed; after the painting is accomplished, it is put into the kiln and fired at 800 °C.

In-glazed color is to apply glaze on porcelain body first, then paint on glaze surface, and subsequently apply glaze again; the painting between two layers of glazes is formed by firing at 1300 °C.

Under-glazed color is to paint on the body of unfinished porcelain, and then apply glaze; it is formed by firing at 1300 °C.

The forms of ceramic painting include blue and white, famille rose, multicolor, plain tri-color and so on.
